That headline isn’t a typo.
I’ve avoided writing this page because it was my least favorite to create…except for the picture above, taken on the same spot 15 years and two ridiculously amazing daughters apart.
This is where I’m supposed to share enough good stuff about myself that you a) want to keep reading and b) want to work together, but not go so overboard that I come off as a raving egomaniac.
WARNING: I’m bad at this and I’m going to screw it up.
I’ve rejected 17 drafts of this page already. The only reason you’re reading this latest version is because I’m writing it at 2:23am on Thursday and I’m so worried about trying to thread the “Ah shucks, ain’t nothin’ special about me, folks”/”WORSHIP MY AWESOMENESS, FILTHY MORTALS” needle that I’ve stress-eaten an entire box of Little Debbie Swiss Rolls since midnight and need to step away from the computer before my metabolism implodes, so I just hit “Publish” and let the words fall where they may.
Let me say this: I’ve been a speaker for over 20 years. I’ve spoken to groups that wouldn’t fill a Mini-Cooper and keynoted to thousands. I’ve spoken about bringing out the best in others, finding faith in Christ, being a great leader at work and at home, how to destroy and rebuild your family, fighting burnout, and much more. Yes, there have been standing ovations and glowing reviews along the way. There have also been some missed opportunities. All of them have broken my heart, in good ways and bad, and made me better.
I’m a photographer and filmmaker who loves capturing the real moments of life. They can happen at a revival, at a concert, in a conference room, or in a quiet moment with family and friends. I love to use those images to tell stories about everyday heroes. Some shots have been seen by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. One was featured by National Geographic. Some have moved people to tears, to change, to repentance.
I serve individuals and companies in their quest to be more effective in their homes, their communities, and their lives. I’ve helped my clients and friends collectively add over half a billion dollars in assets and revenue. I’ve won state and national awards for these efforts. Some of my clients have done the same.
I’ve also written a book – Heroes, Villains, and Drunk Old Men: A Love Story for Real Life. More on that here.
I’m in love with Jesus, my wife, and my daughters. In that order. That love has changed me more completely than anything else in this world. You’ll hear about it if we spend some time together.
I don’t have all the answers or always practice what I preach. There are days when all the truth upon which I’ve based my life goes flying out of my head and I add another chapter to my personal blooper reel.
All I am, in the words of D. T. Niles, is “a beggar telling another beggar where to find some bread.”
I hope you find some bread here.
But back off the Swiss Rolls. They’re all mine.
